He is then driven into hiding by the police and the popular press and finds himself hiding in an apartment overlooking a cemetary. The chilly reception by his family and a close colegue lead him to go on a rampage with a gun but he accidently kills two innocent people instead of his intended victims. He is an ardent nationalist as well as a onetime Robin Hood. It is a novel about a thief, recently released from prison. "The Thief and the Dogs" is translated from the Arabic by Trevor Le Gassick and M. It is the story of the residents of one of the hustling, teeming back alleys of Cairo. "Midaq Alley" is translated from the Arabic by Trevor Le Gassick. This book contains three novels by the Nobel Prize winning Egyptian author Naguib Mahfouz: "Midaq Alley," "The Thief and the Dogs," and "Miramar." With an introduction by John Fowles. A tight, clean, sound copy in monochrome illustrated gray and green wraps with minor overall shelf wear with some light creasing on the spine plus there is some very light fading along the right edge of the back cover plus there is some very, very light edge wear along the top spine edge and at the corners plus there is some scattered very light rubbing on the front cover plus there is some light yellowing of the outside paper edges.
